Bay Area Musicals!, the newest non-profit theatrical organization to join the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area arts community, opens its third season with the Tony Award-winning musical, 42nd Street. Considered the ultimate showbiz musical, 42nd Street tells the story of a starry-eyed young dancer named Peggy Sawyer who leaves her Allentown home and lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star?

42nd Street will perform November 11-December 10, 2017 at San Francisco's Alcazar Theatre (650 Geary Street.) Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m..; Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 2 p.m. There will be two special Black Friday (November 24) performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

A celebration of Broadway, Times Square, and the people who make the magic of musical theatre, 42nd Street was the winner of four Tony Awards, including Best Musical (1981), Best Choreography (1981), Best Musical Revival (2001), and Best Featured Actress (2001). Featuring some of the greatest music ever written for the stage, including "We're In The Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," "Shuffle Off To Buffalo," "Dames," "I Only Have Eyes For You" and, of course, "42nd Street," 42nd Street has brought audiences to their feet across the country with its imaginative tap dancing production numbers and dazzling songs.

With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, this sparkling new production will be directed by Bay Area Favorite Daren A.C. Carollo with Artistic Director Matthew McCoy re-staging Gower Champion's original Tony Award-winning choreography.

Says Matthew McCoy, Bay Area Musicals! Founder and Artistic Director: "42nd Street was one of the first touring shows I saw in the rural parts of South Carolina where I was raised. It took this Southern boy by the throat and threw show business into my veins. I can't think of a more iconic Broadway show that screams 'theater' and 'showbiz!' This wonderfully done book musical has everything one could ask for: catchy songs, dazzling production numbers, tap dancing, bright costumes, hilarious one-liners, and songs you will continue to hum long after exiting the theater. We will be recreating the iconic staging and choreography that 42nd Street is known for, while also breathing new life into it to make it relatable for our audiences and catering it to the intimate space of the Alcazar Theater. You'll never sit this close to 25 tappers dancing in your life."

42nd Street features an ensemble cast of Bay Area actors including, Samantha Rose as Peggy Sawyer, Nikita Burshteyn as Billy Lawlor, Laurie Strawn as Dorothy Brock, DC Scarpelli as Julian Marsh and Marisa Cozart as Maggie Jones. Joining them are John Brown, Venis Goodman, Peter Budinger, Kevin Singer, Janet Wiggins, Caroline Noel, Catrina Manahan, Danielle Cheiken, BriAnne Martin, Lindsey Meyer, Alyson Chilton, and Zachary Padlo.

Under the direction of Daren A.C. Carollo, the creative team for 42nd Street includes music director Jon Gallo, choreography by Artistic Director Matthew McCoy, costume designer Brooke Jennings, prop design by Devon LaBelle, sound design by Anton Hedman and wig design by Jackie Dennis.

Bay Area Musicals! would like to acknowledge its 2017-18 company sponsors: Bay Area Reporter, Waterlogic, Hilton Union Square and Performing Arts Academy of Mari.
