Bay Area Finalists Announced For Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon's Scholarship

Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced today the selection of nine Bay Area finalists for the Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts." One winner in each category will be presented with a check for $10,000 towards their college education. The high school seniors that will perform live on Monday, June 8th are:

Acting:
YANELLY DELAROSA - Abraham Lincoln High School, San Jose
BRENNAN PICKMAN-THOON - Marin Academy, San Rafael
PATRICK VARNER - Montgomery High School, Santa Rosa

Dancing:
CRYSTAl Lee - San Francisco School of the Arts, San Francisco
JESSICA LESTER - American High School, Fremont
PAIGE SCHECKLA - Tracy High School, Tracy

Singing:
MICHAEL BOYER - Campolindo High School, Moraga
NIKOLA PRINTZ - Novato High School. Novato
MORGAN THOMPSON - Tamalpais High School, Mill Valley

"I am so excited about the submissions we received from this year's seniors," said Producer Jo Schuman Silver. "It wasn't an easy task to narrow it down to just nine finalists. The judges definitely have their work cut out picking only one winner in each category."

In addition to the finalists' performances on June 8, Beach Blanket Babylon will be kicking off its 35th Anniversary festivities with a special performance by the cast of Beach Blanket Babylon as well as a reunion performance featuring previous "Scholarship for the Arts" winners.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening is Star 101.3's Don Bleu. The celebrity panel of judges scheduled to appear includes: Choreographer Val Caniparoli, San Francisco's Mr. Nightlife Harry Denton, KGO Radio's Jerry Friedman, Composer Gordon Getty, San Francisco Opera's General Director David Gockley, KMEL's Chuy Gomez, Actress Rita Moreno, California Shakespeare Theater's Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone, American Conservatory Theater's Artistic Director Carey Perloff, Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Artistic Director Tony Taccone and KRON4/KCBS Radio's Jan Wahl.
