ACT Extends TALES OF THE CITY Through 7/3

By:

American Conservatory Theater's (A.C.T.) highly anticipated production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City is already taking off at the box office. Due to high demand, A.C.T. has added two weeks of performances to the run of the world premiere musical, which will now play through July 3, including a new special 7 p.m. performance on June 26, the evening of the San Francisco Pride Parade. A new preview performance has also been added on Wednesday, May 18, at 8 p.m.

Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City will now run May 18-July 3, 2011, at the American Conservatory Theater (415 Geary Street, San Francisco). Performances are Tuesdays-Saturdays, at 8 p.m. (June 7 performance is at 7 p.m.); Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, at 2 p.m. (no matinee performances on May 18, 21, 22, 25, and June 1 and 26); and additional preview performances on two Sundays, May 29 and June 5, at 8 p.m. The press night for the show is Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 8 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, please contact the A.C.T. Box Office at 415.749.2228 or visit the A.C.T. website at www.act-sf.org.

Three decades after Armistead Maupin mesmerized millions with his daily column in the city's newspapers, detailing the lives and (multiple) loves of Mary Ann, Mouse, Mona, Brian, and their beloved but mysterious landlady, Mrs. Madrigal, his iconic San Francisco saga comes home as a momentous new musical from the Tony Award-winning creators of Avenue Q (librettist Jeff Whitty and director Jason Moore) and the musical minds behind the glam-rock phenomenon Scissor Sisters (composers Jake Shears and John Garden). The capstone of the 2010-11 season, A.C.T.'s world premiere musical adaptation of Tales of the City unleashes an exuberant celebration of the irrepressible spirit that continues to define our City by the Bay. The general public is invited to join Tale Chasers, A.C.T.'s email fan club, to get access to exclusive first looks, presale ticket information, and other special offers by visiting www.act-sf.org/TaleChasers.

A.C.T.'s Opening Night Gala honoring Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City will take place Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Beginning with a black tie cocktail reception and gala dinner in a tented Union Square and followed by the performance and a disco party with the cast and special guests at Ruby Skye, this gala is expected to be the event of the season. A.C.T.'s production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City is sponsored by American Airlines, The Fairmont San Francisco, Foggy Bridge, the Koret Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation. Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City is also made possible by commissioning sponsors Ambassador James C. Hormel and Mr. Michael P.
