3Girls Theatre to Host 2013 Women's History Month Festival, 3/3-31

By:

3Girls Theatre Company announces the launch of its sophomore season with a month-long celebration of Women's History Month in March 2013, featuring new works by Bay Area women playwrights. 3Girls Theatre will be in residency March 3-31, 2013 at Tides Playhouse (formerly SF Playhouse) theatre, a block from Union Square, at 533 Sutter Street in San Francisco.

The Festival is a full month of theatrical productions, readings, workshops, and events. The calendar includes:

· An all new revival production of The Couch by Lynne Kaufman, directed by veteran San Francisco director Amy Glazer

· A world premiere of three short plays, Things We Do For Love, by Suze Allen, directed by Jennifer Welch

· Concert readings of the in-progress musical plays Southern Lights by Lee Brady and Moments of Truth by Patricia Milton

· Readings of new works in progress, including staged and development readings of works by 3GT playwrights AJ Baker, Robin Bradford, Mary Knoll, Margery Kreitman and special guest playwrights

The Festival will also feature "Peeling Back the Layers," an exhibit of art by local women artists (curated by SF artist Rachel Leibman), writing workshops, and a performance of work by teenage playwrights from 3GT's GirlWrights playwrighting lab program, and more.

Details of the shows and a full schedule are at www.3girlstheatre.org. Festival passes are available online for $100 (admission to all 9 productions, including VIP seats for The Couch and Things We Do For Love, as well as all parties and events).

3Girls Theatre Company produced its ambitious inaugural Celebration of Women's History Month Festival in March 2012 at Thick House, San Francisco. Hundreds of audience members attended one or more of the Festival's 2 full productions and 6 staged readings (including the world premiere of AJ Baker's The Right Thing and concert readings of Patricia Milton's musical play, Not Without Our Women), and critics praised both the individual productions and the Festival as a whole. "Credit the audacity of brand-new 3Girls Theatre Company for hitting the ground running with this smart world premiere, plus another main stage production and several weeks of staged readings" (Jean Schiffman, SF Examiner) According to Co-Founder and Literary Director Lee Brady, "last year's Festival was just a taste of what's to come for 3GT!"

Founded in 2011 by Suze Allen, AJ Baker and Lee Brady, 3Girls Theatre Company has a singular mission: to put women's work on stage where it belongs. The founders - all playwrights - were inspired by their desire to retain control over their own work and challenge the theatre establishment's acceptance of a status quo dominated by the male perspective. A playwright-driven company, 3GT stages and supports new works written by Company playwrights, producing and collaborating on development readings, staged readings and full productions. 3GT's main event is its annual March Festival in Celebration of Women's History Month. In addition, 3GT's educational program offers workshops for playwrights (through 3GT Theatre Lab) and nurtures the voices of young women through the 3GT GirlWrights Playwrighting Lab. All of these components add up to the Founders' artistic vision: to create an enduring, collaborative Company where women's voices of all ages will be heard, loud and clear.
