The Capitol Steps Returns To San Diego To MAKE AMERICA GRIN AGAIN

The award-winning Capitol Steps (www.capsteps.com), America's premiere political-musical-satire troupe, is heading back to the Spreckels Theatre in San Diego on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 8 PM. Their last show in 2017 was a sellout and fans can expect this show to follow suit.

The troupe will Make America Grin Again. Hear from Donald Trump and Don Jr., Jeff Sessions, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan (and even some Democrats. SAD!!!) as they make comedy great again. With a special guest appearance by Stormy Daniels!

The show is 90 minutes long with a 15-minute intermission. Fans can expect to see skits like "Pence is from Heaven," "The Most Fabulous, Stupendous, Fantastic Military Parade," "Stormy Daniels," and more. Most importantly, they can expect to be entertained, laugh incessantly, and leave in a great mood-because the Capitol Steps are cheaper than therapy!

For over 35 years, the Capitol Steps have been putting politics and scandal to music. They began when Reagan was president and ketchup was a vegetable. Since then they have made more albums than the Constitution has amendments.

Tickets are $39-$59 and are on sale now by calling 619-235-9500 or at spreckels.net.

The Capitol Steps have elevated political satire to an art form. Before The Daily Show, Full Frontal, and The Colbert Report, this Washington, DC-based comedy troupe gave audiences laugh cramps with their bipartisan lampooning. The Capitol Steps began in 1981 as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize their employers, and haven't let up since. If you've been keeping with the news, you know there's no shortage of material. The troupe is coming back to San Diego with a new show of musical and political comedy. It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or Democrat, a snowflake or a deplorable: Neither side is safe from the group that puts the "MOCK" in Democracy!
This formidable yet beloved group of comedian-singers carry on a tradition that began over 35 years ago.

No matter who or what is in the headlines, The Capitol Steps tackle all sides of the political spectrum, offering timely laugh therapy to audiences around the nation. They have performed for the last five Presidents (but not yet for President Trump).

"I've been a full-time performer with this group for 20 years. Although this might be the most ridiculous ('fake news!'), scary ('terrific!'), crazy ('very stable!') slice of America we've ever experienced, we somehow transmogrify (don't ask me what that means) this Orwellian/Dr. Strangelove hiccup of human history into a laugh-so-hard-your-cheeks-hurt show," commented singer, actor, jazz-vocalist, producer and presenter Mike Thornton. "Our 90-minute show transcends all political views, and I get the last laugh because I get to play Donald Trump."

Originally, a group of Senate staffers was planning a show for a Christmas party in 1981. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress, they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin. So they decided to dig into the headlines of the day and created song parodies and skits, which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor. They adopted their name from a 1981 political scandal in which Representative John Jenrette allegedly had relations with his wife on the steps of the U.S. Capitol building.

The troupe has been featured on NBC, ABC, and CBS, tackling the foibles of elected officials through skit and song, transmuting scandals and shortcomings into pure laughter. Every year, the troupe also appears on multiple NPR stations nationwide during their "Politics Takes a Holiday" specials.
