The MFA Musical Theatre Program has invited contemporary music theatre composer Ryan Scott Oliver to be a composer-in-residence from April 28-May 7, 2014. Mr. Oliver will work with the current MFA Musical Theatre students as well as selected alumni to present a reading of his new work, We Foxes, on Monday, May 5 at 7:30pm at the Experimental Theatre on the San Diego State University campus. We Foxes is directed by Paula Kalustian with music direction by Robert Meffe.

Set in 1945 Missouri, the Southern Gothic musical tells the story of Willa, a tough, unmannered orphan adopted by the wife of the Sheriff and the bloody domestic war that ensues between them when Willa uncovers the secrets lurking beneath the floorboards. It is the story of intense human struggle, deliverance, and salvation that can only be found from within.

Ryan Scott Oliver is an accomplished musical theatre composer and lyricist. He has written eight musicals, and is a 2011 Lucille Lortel Award Nominee, a 2009 Jonathan Larson grant recipient, and the 2008 Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theatre recipient. His work has been featured at the Kennedy Center, Off-Broadway, and on television. Last month, Backstage Magazine included him in their first annual Future Broadway Power List.

Admission is free, but seats are limited, and reservations are highly recommended. Call or email the SDSU Musical Theatre Archive for reservations: (619) 594-8262 or mtmfasdsu@gmail.com.
