San Diego Musical Theatre has announced that after producing its critically-acclaimed productions at the Lyceum Theatre in downtown San Diego for the past several seasons, they will be moving into their new home (where their first production of The Full Monty began!), the Birch North Park Theatre, to present the first production of its new 2012 season of shows, THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES, created and directed by Roger Bean, with musical direction by Don LeMaster.

Choreography and assistant directing by Bets Malone and featuring its Off-Broadway cast, Bets Malone, Misty Cotton, Beth Malone and Lowe Taylor. THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES will preview on Friday, February 10, 2012 and will open on Saturday, February 11 and run through Sunday, February 26 at the Birch North Park Theatre, 2891 University Avenue in San Diego.

SD Musical Theater's statement about the show: "The Marvelous Wonderettes takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick On Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “It’s My Party” and over 20 other classic hits! You’ve never had this much fun at a prom and you will never forget The Marvelous Wonderettes - a must-take musical trip down memory lane."

Roger Bean (Writer/Director) created and directed the long-running Off-Broadway and Los Angeles productions of The Marvelous Wonderettes. MR. Bean received two Los Angeles Ovation Award nominations for Best Director of a Musical for both The Marvelous Wonderettes and its holiday sequel Winter Wonderettes. In 2007 The Marvelous Wonderettes received the Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Musical. Original cast albums for both Wonderettes shows are now available from PS Classics (The Marvelous Wonderettes) and LML Music (Winter Wonderettes) – look for both on iTunes. Other musicals and revues created by MR. Bean include the cross-dressing ‘40s musical The Andrews Brothers (over 50 productions throughout the country) and Route 66 (over 100 productions throughout the country, including two national tours). MR. Bean also created the recent long-running Los Angeles hit Life Could Be A Dream, which received the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the LA Weekly Theatre Award, and the Backstage Garland Award for Best/Outstanding Musical of 2010. MR. Bean has had the pleasure of writing and directing for the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Laguna Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Musical Theatre West, San Jose Rep, Sacramento Music Circus, Capital Rep, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Delaware Theatre Company, and numerous stages in-between. MR. Bean’s new musical, Summer of Love, recently had its World Premiere at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach. This newest show is about the late-sixties counter-cultural revolution in San Francisco, and had its East Coast premiere at Maine’s Ogunquit Playhouse this past summer.
