Haste Theatre's OYSTER BOY Opens at San Diego Fringe Fest Tonight

Haste Theatre is set to present their dark comedy OYSTER BOY at the San Diego Fringe Festival on beginning today, July 5 at 6:30 PM at Space 4 Art's outdoor stage, July 6 (performance at 9:30 PM), and July 7 (performance at 5:00 PM).

OYSTER BOY is a dark comedy inspired by a collection of short stories by Tim Burton and tells the story of a boy who is born with an Oyster-shell-shaped head and his parents' struggle to raise their extraordinary son. A bittersweet tale of the trials of love and what it means to be Other, OYSTER BOY reminds us that we should be careful what we wish for and of the delicacy of life. The fairytale-like world of the show introduces us to a range of larger-than-life characters that are sure to entertain and delight audiences of all ages. Drawing on a range of theatrical and filmic influences, this peculiar story is told through a rich blend of physical storytelling, live choral singing, clown, dance and puppetry. With this colorful, multilingual production, Haste Theatre invites you into a sensitive, funny and surreal world.

Haste Theatre is an international, all-female ensemble of six passionate theatre-makers. The company is based in London yet represents four different nationalities, with members from England, Scotland, Italy and Germany. Their training is rooted in the European physical theatre tradition, which focuses on imaginative storytelling through physicality, clown, image and illusion. Each performer brings something different to Haste - their backgrounds include dance, linguistics, directing, applied theatre, audio/video production and music. The company are keen to create contemporary and visually impressive theatre, but through simple means. Their aim is to offer thought provoking work, creating performances in which the audience can find laughter and enjoyment. As an international company, a further focus is to reflect their diverse cultural heritage in performance and endeavor to create work that is accessible to international audiences.
