Cygnet Theatre to Host SPRING AWAKENING 'Tweet Night,' 4/11
Engaging the next generation of patrons is a goal of most every arts and culture organization operating today. To help reach that objective, Cygnet Theatre launched CygNext, a 30 and under marketing initiative designed to cultivate younger audiences by offering special discounts, hosting meet-ups and providing unique opportunities to meet the cast and enjoy cocktails before or after designated shows.
Thanks to a National Endowment for the Arts grant, Cygnet is enhancing the upcoming CygNext night for Spring Awakening by encouraging live tweeting by the cast and audience before, during or after the show. "We're excited to push the envelope and test this method of engaging young theater- goers," explained Artistic Director Sean Murray. "Our first task will be to rewrite our opening curtain speech to tell people to turn ON their phones!"
CygNext Tweet Night will take place at the Cygnet Theatre during the Spring Awakening performance on Friday, April 11th at 8:00 pm. "We chose this play to test the concept because not only does the content resonate with young people, but we have an extraordinarily young and talented cast who can participate as well," Murray added. In addition to the social media component, CygNext members can purchase discounted tickets. All 20-somethings are invited to enjoy the production at an incredibly discounted CygNext rate ($20) and then stay for a free post-show mixer that includes wine, beer, and light refreshments with cast members from the show!
Audience members will be encouraged to use hash-tag #ctspringawakening to share their experiences on Twitter.
