The 2013-2014 Season for Classic Theatre of San Antonio brings with it exciting shows and the need for a new home. Over the last four years, The Classic Theatre has been housed in the Blue Star Arts Complex with JumpStart Performance Company. This partnership provided a space for two theatre companies and a permanent home for professional artists. JumpStart Performance Company's lease with Blue Star Arts Complex, however, will not be renewed. So, after four years in the Sterling Houston Theatre of the Blue Star Arts Complex, The Classic Theatre is looking for a new home.

Classic Theatre of San Antonio is dedicated to our vision of building a professional theatre that inspires passionate involvement in a shared theatrical experience and is a source of pride for our community. While focusing on finding a new space, The Classic Theatre remains positive over the fantastic growth and overwhelmingly positive support we have received from our audiences.

"Classic Theatre does an excellent job of translating pieces of classic literature to modern everyday audiences which offers self reflection and superb perusals into the state of the human condition." -Chris Cheever, Co-founder and Supporter

"The Classic Theatre is consistent in offering great productions of classics, old and new. They are a "don't miss" in San Antonio theatre!" Christine Crowley, Patron and Supporter

From its beginning, The Classic Theatre of San Antonio has aimed to provide quality productions of classic plays and even connects local high school students through their Apprenticeship/Internship/Mentorship Program (AIM High) and student performances. Since 2011, and through the generous support of Rackspace Hosting, over seven hundred students have attended their free student performances. Many of these students had never attended live theatre before.

"Classic Theatre's productions embrace much of the literature that is part of the required curriculum established by the State for language arts and a central part for many of our theatre arts programs," said Diana Schumacher, Director of Fine Arts and Student Activities at NEISD. "In our attempt to integrate core curriculum and the arts, a resource such as Classic is immeasurable."

The final production from The Classic Theatre's 5th Season opens on May 10 in the Sterling Houston Theatre at Blue Star Arts Complex. Scapin, adapted from from Moliere by Bill Irwin and Mark O'Donnell, is directed by Matthew Byron Cassi and stars Brendan Spieth, who returns to San Antonio after graduating from Juilliard in New York where he now makes his home.

Classic's sixth season begins with Proof by David Auburn, and includes other classics: Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, and Private Lives by Noel Coward. We also plan to stage the radio show It's a Wonderful Life by Joe Landry in December as our annual holiday show.

Classic Theatre is looking for a space that can be reconfigured based on the needs of the play with a stage area approximately 24x30 and a ceiling height of at least 20' with installed theatrical lighting and sound that can seat at least 100 people and a lobby for patrons to gather in before and after the performance. Office space for two or three employees and a small amount of storage space, dressing rooms and a green room for actors is also important. The company requires space for rehearsals running at least five weeks before opening night. Feedback and suggestions form the community are welcome and encouraged.

We remain enthusiastic about the future of the Classic Theatre and are devoted to continuing to provide the quality classic theatre that our audiences have grown to love. The support of the community at large and our patrons is essential as we make this transition into a new era of The Classic Theatre of San Antonio.
