BWW Reviews: LITTLE MERMAID, JR. Swims Through San Antonio

By:

The Woodlawn Theatre has been very busy with their youth group. The children between the ages of 5-12 put on their version of THE LITTLE MERMAID, JR. It was quite the evening for these youngsters as they had planned and worked so hard to create this show. I could see them in my mind as they spent endless hours at home memorizing their lines with family members, attending rehearsals every week and looking forward to the show days to have everyone see their hard work pay off.

And pay off it did. When the music began, you could feel the energy swelling in the theater. You could feel the emotions of these pint-sized thespians as they hit the stage. They delivered every bit of their enthusiasm to the audience as they belted out each number. Danielle Garcia played the role of Ariel and her voice was strong and melodic. The character of Prince Eric (played by Chance Margotta) was well-done also. Ursula was played by Allison Varney who added her own personality to the role. When she belted out "Poor Unfortunate Souls," she had the audience wanting more from this young veteran performer. Other fabulous performers included Gabby Garcia who played Sebastian and Taylor Novak who played Scuttle.

Other cast members as well as the ensemble members worked as hard as the leads to make this a successful event to be enjoyed by the whole family. This was an evening of fun and adventure for everyone.

If you would like for your children ages 5-18 to get involved in The Woodlawn Academy of the Performing Arts, auditions will begin for Seussical, Jr on January 26, 2013. You must have an appointment and can do so by emailing chris@woodlawntheatre.com. You can get more information on upcoming shows and events by visiting their website: woodlawnAPA.com.
