As the second offering of its 2012 season, the Overtime Theater in San Antonio will present a new drama, Sleepers Wake. Set in the shadow of 9/11, the play focuses on the question: What if a terrorist changed his mind?

Samir (Sam) Al-Hamza is a former member of the Mujaheddin who has come to the USA to conduct terrorist attacks in the San Antonio area. Living undercover as a restauranteur in Hondo, he develops relationships with the locals that challenge his loyalties. When his past comes calling, he is forced to decide once and for all what it means to serve God.

Audition Dates: Monday, December 12 and Tuesday, December 13, 7-10 pm. Please bring a headshot and resume if available, and be prepared to deliver a one to two minute monologue. Auditions will consist of monologues and/or cold readings from the script.
Callbacks: Wednesday, December 14, 7-10 pm.
Cast: All roles are open.

Samir Al-Hamza: Mid thirties. Middle Eastern, with an accent. Muslim. Outwardly reserved and polite. Intelligent. A decent man gone to war.
Jack Vaughn: Late thirties to late forties. Methodist pastor. Bachelor. Friendly. Wise, but real. More emergent than establishment.

William (Bill) Muennink: Late fifties to late sixties. Rancher. Vietnam veteran. Stable, stand-up guy, but he’s seen a lot.

Elaine Muennink: Late fifties to late sixties. Bill’s wife. Two years younger than her husband. Well-meaning, though a bit of a busybody. She seems vacuous, but underneath, she is old-school frontier-woman tough.
Phil Mayer: Early thirties. Jewish (Reform). Medical doctor. Better adjusted to life in Hondo than his wife, but still not a native. Not a pushover, but open to other viewpoints.
Rebekah Mayer: Early thirties. Phil’s wife. Two years younger than her husband. Jewish (Reform). More openly liberal and self-conscious than her husband. Assertive, but still not completely sure of herself.

Robert (Bob) Patrick: About 60. Pharmacist. Solid guy. Conservative, but not bigoted or ignorant.

David Patrick: Early thirties. Attorney. Bob’s son, and close friend of Gonzales. Too passionate for his own good at times.
John Gonzales: Early thirties. Air Force NCO. Open, friendly, likeable.

Michael Mullins: 30 to 40. FBI Special Agent. Skeptical, but professional. Willing to do what it takes to get his man.

Khalid Al-Hamza: 30 to 40, about three to five years older than Sam. Middle Eastern, with an accent. Muslim. Sam’s cousin and brother-in-arms. A firebrand who believes his own propaganda.
Rehearsals: January 2012 – February 22, 2012.
Performances: February 23 – March 24, 2012. 8 pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Also, one matinee on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 3 pm. No show on First Friday, March 2.
