By: Apr. 22, 2010

The Utah Cultural Celebration Center is hosting its sixth annual 'Fiesta!' - an evening of entertainment, excitement, and education celebrating Mexican heritage and culture in Utah. On Saturday, May 22, 2010, from 5pm to dark, the event will be held at 1355 West 3100 South, West Valley City, UT.

Bring the family and enjoy the 'Fiesta!', highlighted by traditional Mexican music, dance, Aztec ritual performances, food and the ceremonial lighting of the Olmec head & fireworks. Along with stemmed rose giveaways there will be ongoing games of La Lotería with prizes, paper flower making, beading stringing, and other children's activities, including piñata breaking. Two competitions for prizes will be held, one for the best "sing along" with Utah's mariachi group Sol de Jalisco, and another for the best dance couple. A dance workshop for first-timers will be offered by Salsa Passion Dance Academy. Imported arts & crafts from Mexico will be for sale in the Una Mano Amiga-sponsored Mercado, with funds supporting health needs of children in Mexico.

Finally, in celebration of the 200 years of the Independence of Mexico and the 100 years of the Mexican Revolution (www.bicentenario.gob.mx/english/), the Consulate of Mexico in Salt Lake City will unveil "Este es mi Mexico/This is My Mexico" Children's Drawing Art exhibit and will promote the 2010 International Drawing Contest encouraging children of any nationality to express what Mexico means to them (its people, culture, history, land). The artwork will be sent to Mexico where 15 winners will be selected to receive prizes. For more information please contact the Consulate of Mexico: 801-521-8502, ext. 23 or 29.
