Pioneer Theatre Company, Utah's premier professional theatre, will open its 2016-17 season with the THE LAST SHIP, the new musical with music and lyrics by the pop superstar Sting and book by the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning writers John Logan and Brian Yorkey. PTC's production will be the first since the show's Broadway run in 2014-15.

PTC's season will also include the family-favorite musical OLIVER!, based on the classic novel by Charles Dickens, and will close with the Tony Award-winning musical THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES.

On the dramatic side, the season will include the Utah premiere of the recent London and Broadway hit KING CHARLES III, a mesmerizing look at Britain's current royal family; August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama FENCES; Tennessee Williams' classic THE GLASS MENAGERIE; and a new comedy, WOMEN IN JEOPARDY by Wendy MacLeod, about three divorced women trying to cope, with sometimes disastrously hilarious results, with being single mothers, the dating scene, and the dangers of camping in the red rocks of southern Utah.

The theatre will continue its music concert offering with a three-performance run of CHESS, the much-loved but seldom performed musical with songs by ABBA members Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus and lyrics by Tim Rice.

Although titles have not been announced yet, the theatre will also continue with its popular Play-by-Play new play reading series.

In response to feedback from its patrons, PTC is moving the start times for its Monday through Thursday performances to 7:00 pm, and the Friday and Saturday evening performances to 7:30 pm. "Over 70 percent of our patrons who filled out our annual survey preferred the earlier start time," noted PTC Artistic Director Karen Azenberg, "so we thought it made sense to listen to our audience."

Ticket prices will remain the same for the 2016-17 season, and season ticket options will continue to include a full Seven-Play, Pick-5, Upper Balcony, and Flex and Rush Pass Options.

Packages range in price from $98 to $323 and include the best seats, discounts, the convenience of exchange privileges, and other benefits.

PTC patrons routinely get to watch performers who star in and appear frequently in Broadway shows. Recent PTC alumni include Anthony Ramos, one of the stars of the current Broadway hitHamilton; Alex Brightman, currently starring in School of Rock; Keala Settles, opening next month in Waitress and last season's Lizzie Klemperer opening next week in Bright Star.

Current season ticket holders will receive their renewal notices in the next few weeks, and will have the opportunity to reserve their current seats as long as they do so by Friday, July 1, 2016. New subscriber orders will be filled in the order in which they are received.
