Shonda L. Thurman Appointed as New Education Director at On Pitch Performing Arts

On Pitch Performing Arts (OPPA!) has announced the appointment of Shonda L. Thurman as its new Education Director, beginning March 2nd.

A performer, director, and educator with nearly two decades of experience as a Teaching Artist, Thurman brings extensive professional performance and arts leadership experience to OPPA!. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from Roosevelt University in Chicago and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

She has performed for Disney World and Universal Orlando and appeared in National Broadway Tours. Her leadership experience includes serving as Education Programs Manager for Orlando Family Stage and as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advocate for the Athens Theatre.

In her work as a Teaching Artist and director, Thurman focuses on helping performers of all ages discover their creativity and confidence. She believes that every individual deserves a voice and that their stories should be told, heard, and represented.

“Shonda's philosophy of arts education and her commitment to community-centered programming align deeply with OPPA!'s mission,” said Brandon Stauffer, Executive Director of OPPA!. “We are excited to welcome her to the team on March 2nd and look forward to the leadership and inspiration she will bring to our students, families, and staff.”

On Pitch Performing Arts serves thousands of students and audience members annually through theatre productions, arts education programs, and community partnerships throughout Davis County and the surrounding region.
