Pioneer Theatre Company has announced its 2010-11 season, which will include an eighth "add-on" production of the electrifying pop-rock opera RENT, the winner of both the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1996.

The theatre's traditional seven play season opens with HAMLET (September 17 through October 2, 2010), followed by Bram Stoker's DRACULA (October 22 through November 6, 2010); the lavish holiday musical Irving Berlin'S WHITE CHRISTMAS, which will include an additional week of performances the week of Christmas (December 3 through December 24, 2010); BLACK COMEDY by Peter Shaffer (January 14 through January 29, 2011); the world premiere of IN by playwright Bess Wohl, author of this season's "Touch(ed)" (February 18 through March 5, 2011); THE DIARY OF Anne Frank (March 18 through April 2, 2011); and Andrew Lloyd Webber's SUNSET BOULEVARD (April 29 through May 14, 2011).

Following the close of SUNSET BOULEVARD, the production of RENT will run from June 10 through June 25, 2011.

"RENT is a landmark musical, but it is very different from our traditional musicals," noted PTC Managing Director Chris Lino. "Because it has a pop-rock score and edgier themes, we know it appeals to a younger audience, but we also know that some audiences might be uncomfortable with it. We decided to let our audience have the option of including RENT in their season package or not. Season patrons can select their regular seven play subscription without including RENT if they like. Patrons who want to include RENT can add it, at a discounted rate, to their seven play package, and be assured of getting their same seats on their regular performance night for RENT. Patrons who want RENT but are less interested in the other two musicals can also include RENT, at no additional cost, by exchanging out of WHITE CHRISTMAS or SUNSET BOULEVARD. And Pick 5 patrons can select any five shows, including RENT, for their Pick 5 package."

Remarking on the season, Artistic Director Charles Morey said, "What I like most about next season is that it truly does explore the entire range of world theatre: from what is arguably the greatest play ever written, Shakespeare's HAMLET to the Gothic classic Bram Stoker's DRACULA, to traditional favorites like Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRISTMAS and THE DIARY OF Anne Frank. Peter Shaffer's very funny, and very short comedy, BLACK COMEDY is one that very few of our audience have seen before and one that they will enjoy immensely. And we are proud to present the regional theatre premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's SUNSET BOULEVARD which many critics consider his masterpiece. We will continue our exciting New Plays Project with another intriguing world premiere, IN, by Bess Wohl, whose "Touch(ed)" last season generated real excitement both with our local audience and New York producers. We close the season with the regional professional premiere of RENT - an enormously important, seminal rock musical that had an extraordinary decade and a half run in New York and has generated a huge audience following around the world."

Season tickets range from $77 to $272, which means that season ticket patrons pay between $11 and $46 a ticket to see shows that cost over $100 on Broadway or National Tours. Notes PTC Managing Director Chris Lino, "For the price of one or two tickets to a Broadway show theatergoers can have a full season of entertainment at PTC, and be assured of the best seats and the convenience of exchanging their tickets if they can't make their regular performance. And, as our long-time patrons know, you'll be seeing the same actors who appear on Broadway stages, and the same spectacular sets and costumes that you would see on Broadway."
