Air Supply Opens SCERA Summer Season on Memorial Day

By:
As SCERA was putting together its 2017 summer season under the stars at their Shell Outdoor Theatre, the uppermost question was, "What do our audiences want to see this summer?" And when SCERA President & CEO Adam Robertson sifted through multiple options, he and his team decided an ideal way to begin the season on Memorial Day was with Air Supply, one of the SCERA's most requested groups of all time.

The iconic Australian pop group will play in Orem's landmark amphitheater May 29 at 8 p.m. and highlight monster hits that smashed music charts throughout the '80s and '90s.

General admission tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children 3-11 and seniors 65 and older. Reserved areas with free lawn chair may still be available, and tickets range from $30 to $40 for adults and $25 to $35 for children and seniors. They are available at scera.org, by calling 801-225 ARTS, and at the main office at SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 S. State St., Orem between 10am-6pm weekdays.

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock met at rehearsals in 1975 for "Jesus Christ Superstar" and bonded immediately over their common love of the Beatles and their own passion for singing. They discovered that together they produced a unique sound that has been admired for more than 40 years. Graham, a prolific writer and singer, created music designed for Hitchcock's signature tenor voice. The result was Air Supply, and it wasn't long before the duo began supplying power ballads that became the soundtrack for many real life romances.

It didn't take them long to amass massive radio play and earn an international audience with music that remains memorable across the generations. Their love songs are infused with romance and harmony and include "Lost in Love," "All Out of Love," "Every Woman in the World," "The One That You Love," "Even the Nights are Better," "Here I Am," "Two Less Lonely People in the World," "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" and "Sweet Dreams."

As popular as their recordings became, however, it is their live performances that have captivated audiences from the beginning. They have toured worldwide, and their concert tour that celebrated 30 years together brought huge audiences, including a show in Cuba that drew 175,000 people. Clearly, they still supply audiences with a breath of fresh air.
