The Center Partners with Bolshoi Ballet in World Premiere of Reflections
The Orange County Performing Arts Center is proud to announce a new artistic partnership with the famed Bolshoi Ballet to create a major dance program titled Reflections. The Center and the Bolshoi have commissioned several new works created by many of today's leading choreographers that will showcase six extraordinary ballerinas, all who have trained at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. The world premiere will be in Segerstrom Hall January 20 - 23, after which Reflections will travel to Russia for its European premiere at the Bolshoi in Moscow January 27 - 30. Starring in the production will be Maria Kochetkova of San Francisco Ballet; Yekaterina Krysanova, Natalia Osipova and Yekaterina Shipulina of the Bolshoi Ballet; Olga Malinovskaya of the Ballet Estonia and Polina Semionova of the Berlin Staatsoper Ballet. They will be joined by four of the Bolshoi's leading male dancers: Alexander Volchkov, Vyacheslav Lopatin, Denis Savin and Ivan Vasiliev.
Mauro Bigonzetti is creating a new work titled CINQUE, with costumes by famed Russian fashion designer Igor Chapurin. New works are being choreographed for each of the six ballerinas: Jorma Elo is choreographing for Maria Kochetkova, Karole Armitage for Yekaterina Krysanova, Lucinda Childs for Olga Malinovskaya, Wayne McGregor for Natalia Osipova, Ji?í Bubeni?ek for Polina Semionova and Aszure Barton for Yekaterina Shipulina. Nacho Duato is creating a work titled Remansos, a re-visioning of an earlier work now expanded for three couples. Also included in the program will be a new piece choreographed by Johan Kobborg and Pas de Trois by George Balanchine.
Tickets for Reflections are currently available to 2010-2011 International Dance Season subscribers. Single tickets will be available approximately six weeks prior to the January 20 premiere.
