Runaway Stage Presents THE WIZ, 10/20-11/21
While similar in plot to "The Wizard of Oz", The Wiz performs with a multi-racial cast to transform the show into a more fun, funky modern version. Dorothy, the little girl from Kansas, is blown by a tornado to Munchkinland in the Land of Oz. While traveling the Yellow Brick Road she meets the Scarecrow, Tinman and Cowardly Lion. With the help of her new friends Dorothy defeats the evil witch and goes to see the powerful Wizard, who later turns out to be a phoney. However, he is able to convince Dorothy that she can do anything she wants if she just believes in herself. Dorothy also realizes the importance of home and her family.
Charlie Smalls serves as both lyricist and composer and channels a host of musical styles such as Jazz, Blues, Dixieland, Gospel, R & B, Pop, Soul, Disco, even Tin Pan Alley. Every number of the still funky score is designed to be a show stopper!
Multiple Elly Award winning Producer and Director Bob Baxter teams up again with Elly Award winning Choreographer Darryl Strohl, Musical Director Glenn Disney and Vocal Director Deann Golz to stage this funky, energetic Musical.
The Wiz performs Fridays & Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m., October 20 - November 21, 2010.
