Photo Flash: First Look at Sacramento Theatre Company's THE GRAPES OF WRATH
THE GRAPES OF WRATH runs now through October 26, 2014 at Sacramento Theatre Company. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel comes to life onstage, adapted by Frank Galati from the novel by John Steinbeck, starring Kirk Blackinton as Tom Joad, Kurt Johnson as Jim Casy and Matt K. Miller as Pa Joad, Laura Kaya as Ma Joad. Directed by Michael Stevenson.
Frank Galati's stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel opens STC's 2014-2015 Season of Legends, Epics, and Icons. The Grapes of Wrath is an epic story of one family's enduring spirit in the face of incredible hardship. Set during the Great Depression, the play follows the Joads, a family of tenant farmers who are driven from their Oklahoma home to California due to drought, economic hardship, and agricultural changes incited by the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
2014 marks the 75th anniversary of the novel's original publication in 1939, and the production returns to STC's stages 20 years after its last production for a new generation to witness and enjoy. This new production will feature many STC favorites and on-stage musicians (Misner & Smith), as well as members of STC's Young Professionals Conservatory playing the youngest members of the Joad family.
