California Musical Theatre's Cabaret 2011 Season To Feature R&H, Bingo and Caveman

By:

The 2011 Cosmopolitan Cabaret season, California Musical Theatre's third in the 200-seat venue at 10th and K Streets in Sacramento, will feature the Tony-nominated Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II "A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING," the return of the battle-of-the-sexes comedy "DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN" and a new musical comedy about friendship among women, "BINGO." With the 2011 season, the Cosmopolitan Cabaret will be shifting its Wednesday and Thursday night curtain times to an audience friendly 7 p.m. and cutting the performance week from eight to seven by eliminating Tuesday evenings.

The season is produced under the direction of Executive Producer Richard Lewis, Artistic Director Glenn Casale and Associate Producer Marlene Shire-Anderson.

Three-show season subscription packages will be available beginning Monday, November 8, at the Wells Fargo Pavilion Box Office at 1419 H Street or by calling (916) 557-1999. Current season subscribers will receive renewal forms by mail and have priority for seat locations and performance selection if they respond by December 3. Three-show season tickets are $65 for Wednesday or Thursday evenings or Thursday matinee and $89 for Friday and Saturday evenings or Saturday and Sunday matinees. (Premium table seating is $10 extra). Season subscriptions ordered by Dec. 3 will be only $60 for Wednesday or Thursday evenings or Thursday matinee (a savings of almost 40 percent off single tickets) and $80 for Friday and Saturday evenings or Saturday and Sunday matinees (a savings of almost 30 percent).

Rodgers and Hammerstein's "A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING" opens the 2011 Cosmopolitan Cabaret season January 28-May 8, with preview performances January 26 and 27. All 11 of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical collaborations are represented in this 1993 Broadway musical review which received a Tony Award nomination for best musical. The review, with a cast of three women and two men, showcases the timeless and universal nature of Broadway's best known and most beloved songwriting team. "A Grand Night for Singing" will be directed Mindy Cooper, whose Broadway credits include choreographing "Dracula: the Musical" and "Wrong Mountain."

"DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN," the longest-running solo play in Broadway history will be presented at The Cosmopolitan Cabaret June 1 through September 12. A worldwide theatrical tour de force, "Caveman" has been produced in 45 countries and translated into 30 different languages. This hilariously insightful play explores the ways that men and women relate, through dating, marriage, housekeeping and even shopping.

The season will close with "BINGO - the Musical" September 30-January 8 with previews Sept. 28 and 29. Filled with original songs, this musical comedy takes place at a Bingo game in the basement of St. Bartholomew's. High stakes are at play, including the friendships and feuds of the women. "A fun, cheerful and witty new show" (L.A. Times), the balls and the bingo cards will be flying, and everyone plays, including the audience. Directed by California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale.
