B Street Theatre's $9.00 at 9:00 pm showing of Every Brilliant Thing. A chance to see top rated theatre at a discounted rate! This special discounted night started with our Mainstage production The Explorer's Club by Nell Benjamin on June 20th, 2015. The event has continued to give the perfect opportunity to B Street Theatre for reaching a new and younger audience. Lobby opens at 8:00 pm with discounted beer and wine for sale.

Following its humble beginnings at the Ludlow Fringe Festival in 2013, Every Brilliant Thing went on, in 2014, to complete a short UK tour and a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe. The show then transferred to Barrow Street Theatre in New York, finishing a 16 week run at the end of March 2015. After a short break, Every Brilliant Thing came back for an extensive UK tour during 2015.

Following the 2015 tour, the acclaimed production traveled to Australia for the Perth International Festival and then on to Melbourne followed by Wellington, New Zealand and South Carolina.

Every Brilliant Thing centers around the story of one man who takes us on his journey as he copes with the realities of life and death. The Narrator in Macmillian's moving new play struggles to convince his suicidal mother that life is worth living. After she attempts to kill herself when he is only 7-years-old, The Narrator begins keeping a list of all of life's little pleasures that he may share with her in times of pain. The Narrator continues this list throughout his youth and he discovers that not only does it help his mother but it also serves him as he transitions into adult life.

B Street Theatre believes Every Brilliant Thing is the perfect edition to our 2016 - 2017 Mainstage Series Season. Not only does Macmillan's latest work artfully depict both the hilarity and sadness of the human experience but it also draws the audience in through direct interaction with The Narrator.

Upon entering the theatre, each audience member is presented with a piece of paper that contains one of The Narrator's brilliant little pleasures. Whenever The Narrator calls out a number, that audience member is asked to stand and read what is on their piece of paper. This interaction allows all Audience members to become an active participant in The Narrator's story as he attempts to cheer up his ailing mother. Additionally, Audience members are invited to play different roles and join The Narrator as he illustrates his experiences with life and death. Macmillan's script states that The Narrator may be played by an actor of any age or gender and therefore, we are excited to present the unique perspective that actor Dave Pierini will bring to this malleable role.

Every Brillant Thing is a play with great emotional depth and a piece that invites the audience to be an integral part of the storytelling experience. We believe that this production perfectly captures the intimacy of our programming and we are thrilled to share it with B Street audiences.
