B Street Theatre, Sacramento's Resident New Works Theatre, will present the West Coast Premiere of The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence by acclaimed playwright, Madeline George.

Originally produced by Playwrights' Horizons in New York and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, The Watson Intelligence tells the story of famous 'Watsons' throughout history. Watson: trusty sidekick to Sherlock Holmes; loyal engineer who built Bell's first telephone; unstoppable super-computer that became reigning Jeopardy! champ; amiable techno-dweeb who, in the present day, is just looking for love. These four constant companions become one in this brilliantly witty, time-jumping, loving tribute (and cautionary tale) dedicated to the people-and machines-upon which we all depend.

Featuring only three actors playing multiple roles, Watson (Dave Pierini), Eliza (Elisabeth Nunziato) and Merrick (Kurt Johnson) move through time as they play similar characters across several centuries. Seamlessly time-jumping between multiple scenes, the story brings the characters from present day to the years of Sherlock Holmes and back again.

B Street and West Coast Premieres

B Street has a play selection process that is unlike most other American theatres. While many theatres choose titles several seasons in advance, B Street selects fewer plays at a time in order to procure the newest and most pertinent titles. This process allows B Street to produce plays very early in their life by obtaining them directly from playwrights as well as from New York, LA and internationally. This untraditional play selection process has enabled B Street to become the first West Coast theatre to produce the Pulitzer Prize finalist and acclaimed title of The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence.
