The B Street Theatre, Sacramento's Resident Professional, New Works Theatre, is pleased to announce its winter play selection for the Mainstage, B-3, and Family Series.

MAINSTAGE:

The 39 Steps Adapted by Patrick Barlow, from the novel by John Buchan, from the Movie of Alfred Hitchcock.  Licensed by ITV Global Entertainment Limited, and an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon.

In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called The 39 Steps is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale! A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!

The 39 Steps is the fifth play of B Street's 2010-2011 Mainstage Season.

WHAT: A modern ghost story as only the Irish can conjure. A guilt-ridden man seeks help from a therapist to the detriment of both their lives.

RUN DATES: January 9, 2011 through February 5th.

SHOW TIMES: 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursdays, 7 p.m. Fridays, 8 p.m. Saturdays, 1 p.m. Sundays (Thurs./Sun. matinees occur on selected dates only. Call box office for details.)

Shining City is set in Dublin where a guilt-ridden man reaches out to a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. Wrestling with his own demons, the therapist can only do so much to help. Routine visits between the two men quickly become a gripping struggle to survive, changing both of them for the rest of their lives.

Shining City marks the return of Kevin Karrick and Phil Cowan, both featured in the B3 Series production of The Seafarer also written by Conor McPherson. Company member Elisabeth Nunziato directs.

Written by Jerry R. Montoya, The Young Abe Lincoln marks Mr. Montoya's fifth play for B Street's Family Series.  Other Montoya-penned plays are:  The Secret Garden, Treasure Island, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and last season's acclaimed world premier of The Conductor: Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.

The Young Abe Lincoln will feature David Pierini and Michael Stevenson.  Mr. Montoya and B Street artistic director Buck Busfield co-direct.

Family Series Background

The B Street Theatre's Family Series is one of only three fully professional, resident theaters for children in the state of California.  Operating under a Theatre for Young Audience agreement with Actors Equity Association, the Family Series' mission is to introduce children to the wonder of professional theater through the production of original plays, and original adaptations of contemporary novels, and classic works of literature.  Since its premiere season in 2003, the Family Series has presented 28 professional plays for approximately 250,000 children and families of the Sacramento region.

The two-theatre playhouse on B Street in Midtown Sacramento is home to the Mainstage Series, B3 Series, and Family Series, each created to feature intimate, quality theatre for audiences year-round.
