B Street Extends JUNIE B JONES IN JINGLE BELLS, BATMANS SMELLS 12/21-31

By:

Due to exceedingly brisk ticket sales, B Street Theatre will be extending its Family Series production of Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!

Based on the popular children's book series Junie B. Jones, by Barbara Park. In this adventure, the precocious and persistent Junie, in her efforts to create a perfect holiday celebration, are challenged by her nemesis: the equally mischievous and willful Tattletale May. Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! is adapted for the stage by veteran playwright Allison Gregory, whose adaptation of Dr. Seuss's Go Dog Go! was produced as part of B Street's 2008-2009 Family Series Season.

Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! features Brittni Barger as Junie B. and Stephanie Altoltz as Tattletale May; both former B Street acting interns. Other ensemble members are Megan O'Neill (also a former intern), John Lamb, and David Pierini. Michael Stevenson directs.

Public Performances Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Special Holiday Performances held on December 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and December 24 and 31 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Family Series Background

The B Street Theatre's Family Series is one of only three fully professional, resident theaters for children in the state of California. Operating under a Theatre for Young Audience agreement with Actors Equity Association, the Family Series' mission is to introduce children to the wonder of professional theater through the production of original plays, and original adaptations of contemporary novels, and classic works of literature. Since its premiere season in 2003, the Family Series has presented 27 professional plays for approximately 240,000 children and families of the Sacramento region.

More about B Street Theatre: B Street Theatre is a non-profit, professional theatre company producing primarily new work for adults, families and children. The two-theatre playhouse on B Street in Midtown Sacramento is home to the Mainstage Series, B3 Series and Family Series, each created to feature intimate, quality theatre for audiences year-round. Recognized as one of Northern California's top professional theatres, B Street Theatre has produced more than 100 new plays, 60 of which are world, national, West Coast, or regional premieres.

B Street Theatre was originally founded in 1986 for the purpose of bringing the excitement of live performance to children through a program known as Fantasy Theatre, which is now called the B Street Theatre School Tour. This educational outreach program serves over 200,000 students in Northern California annually.

Other B Street Theatre programs include the B Street Theatre Family Series and Family Series Student Matinees (for school field trips), the B3 Series, B Street Acting Conservatory and Studio for Young People, and the B Street Theatre Internship program for pre-professional/post-college training.
