ANYTHING GOES Plays Sacramento Music Circus, Opens Tonight

By:

All aboard for laughs when Cole Porter's Anything Goes sets sail at Music Circus July 26-31. With mistaken identities, long-lost loves, and a bevy of tap dancers aboard a luxury cruise liner, Anything Goes is a guaranteed good time.

The 1934 classic has significant staying power, as evidenced by the 2010 Broadway revival starring Sutton Foster and Joel Gray earning nine Tony Award nominations and winning three. After premiering on Broadway in 1934 starring musical theatre legend Ethel Merman as Reno Sweeney, Anything Goes has been revived many times and also been adapted to film and television. This madcap tap-dancing musical comedy features Cole Porter's timeless tunes "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Anything Goes," "It's De-lovely" and "You're The Top."

Anything Goes takes place aboard the S.S. American en route from New York to London as sexy night club star Reno Sweeny attempts to help her friend Billy Crocker win back his lost love Hope Harcourt who is set to marry the wealthy British nobelman Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. To compliate matters, Billy must assume a series of disguises to hide from his boss, who thinks he's back in New York working, and the F.B.I., who mistakenly believe he is Public Enemy Number One!

The Music Circus production will star Vicki Lewis as night club star Reno Sweeney, David Elder as love sick stowaway Billy Crocker and Jason Graae as Public Enemy Number Thirteen, Moonface Martin. Kevin Cooney will play Billy Crocker's boss, Elisha Whitney, Natalie Cortez will play Hope Harcourt, the long lost love of Billy Crocker who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, to be played by John Scherer. The production will also feature Anita Flanagan as Mrs. Harcourt and Melissa Fahn as Moonface's sidekick Erma.

Music Circus productions are presented at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, 1419 H Street in Sacramento. Performances are Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and Thursday and Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $42 and youth tickets for ages 4-17 start at $30.
