Bloomsday was commissioned by the ACT theatre in Seattle, Washington and premiered there in September of 2015, where it received rave reviews. The play has received further productions throughout the country: the Ensemble Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio, Austin Playhouse in Austin, Texas, and the Next ACT Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Bloomsday and B Street Theatre

After producing the hysterical and raunchy Hand to God, B Street Theatre returns to one of its favorite playwrights Steven Dietz to tell a beautiful, but complex love story for the next Mainstage production. In previous seasons, B Street Theatre has produced Dietz's Becky's New Car, Private Eyes, and Still Life with Iris.

"We've always been a big fan of Steven Dietz," says Artistic Producer Davie Pierini. "And Bloomsday is an achingly beautiful story of love; first love, unrequited love, love that got away. How love can change us, how love can shape our lives, how love can scare and thrill us. It's a simple story about a depthless subject."

The Playwright:

Steven Dietz: Mr. Dietz's thirty-plus plays have been produced at regional theaters across the United States, as well as Off-Broadway. International productions of his work have been seen in England, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia, Argentina, Peru, Greece, Singapore, and South Africa. Recent plays include the widely-produced thriller, Yankee Tavern; the Steinberg Award finalist, Becky's New Car; the Pulitzer-nominated Last of the Boys (produced by Steppenwolf Theatre, Chicago); and the Edgar Award-winning Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure (from William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle). Other plays include Fiction (produced Off-Broadway by the Roundabout Theatre Company), Shooting Star, Inventing van Gogh, The Nina Variations, Private Eyes, Halcyon Days, God's Country, and Lonely Planet (PEN-USA Award for Drama). Mr. Dietz's work as a director has been seen at many of America's leading regional theaters. He divides his time between Seattle and Austin, where he is a professor at the University of Texas.

The Director: Elisabeth Nunziato: Elisabeth is a founding B Street Theatre Company Member, acting most recently in Hand to God, Chessman, A Masterpiece of Comic...Timing, Mud Blue Sky, The Realistic Joneses and 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche. For the B Street Theatre Family Series, she was last seen in Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook and Snow White and Rose Red. She recently made her feature film directorial debut with Stolen Moments, an NK Media/Iron Mountain Films production. Elisabeth has been performing on stage, in film, commercially and in voice-over for more than two decades. She has been fortunate enough to work with Academy Award winners Danny Glover, Robin Williams, Forest Whitaker and Robert Duvall. Her commercial work has been featured in award-winning projects both national and regional. She is partnered with her husband Jason Kuykendall in NK Media, winner of the 2011 National Addy, the world's largest advertising competition.
