"Hansel and Gretel" - the most popular opera composer Engelbert Humperdinck German (1854 - 1921). E.Humperdink studied songwriting in Cologne and Munich, traveled to Italy, where in 1881, met with Richard Wagner and was invited by him in Bayreuth. There Humperdinck assisted Wagner in preparation for the publication of the score of the opera "Parsifal". In 1893, Engelbert Humperdinck put in Weimar opera "Hansel and Gretel» («Hansel und Gretel», on the Russian stage was also named "Vanya and Masha") based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, which immediately won recognition.
