Jesus Christ Superstar was the first Andrew Lloyd Weber/Tim Rice musical produced for the professional stage. Songs from the show - "Superstar", "I Don't Know How to Love Him", and "Everything's Alright", topped the American album charts in the early 1970's. This rock opera is based loosely on the Gospels' account of the last week of Jesus' life. Twentieth-century attitudes and sensibilities as well as contemporary slang pervade the lyrics and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction of political events. From youth groups to Seniors, the show's interpretation is great fuel for discussion.

The cast are all members of Protégé, the senior company of The Lighthouse Youth Theatre. Protégé is made up of the most talented and hard working teens, 18 and under, who want to develop their skills in all aspects of the theatre including classes and being part of a production team.
The Lighthouse Youth Theatre, located in Thornwood, was created in 2006 by artistic director John Fanelli. Fanelli's goal was to produce high caliber productions for children and teens in Westchester and the surrounding areas. LYT produces eight full scale productions annually, and runs two performing arts summer workshops.
