Regional Reviews
All Regional Reviews ›Ottawa Little Theatre’s presentation of Kimberly Akimbo, written by David Lindsay-Abaire, is a fun, quirky, and deeply human musical about growing up amid unusual challenges. Set deep in the suburbs of New Jersey, we meet Kimberly (Sharon Bernbaum), a teenager navigating high school, family chaos, and a first crush while carrying more responsibility than anyone her age should, thanks to a rare disease and a dysfunctional family.
Berkely Rep’s co-production with La Jolla Playhouse of Ngozi Anywanu’s The Monsters is a joyous, heartwarming story of the bond between sister and brother that will want to make you hug your sibling. Both emotionally devastating and rewarding, The Monsters is brilliantly written, superbly acted by Anyanwu and Bay Area–born actor Sullivan Jones (HBO’s The Gilded Age, Slave Play on Broadway), and beautifully staged by Director Tamilla Woodard and her technical crew.
Featuring spot-on recreations of John, Paul, George, and Ringo-these guys are triple threats! They have mastered the group’s look, sound, and musicianship.
Carmen is the world’s third most performed opera. Its tale of the doomed love affair between an innocent young soldier and a beguiling young woman unconstrained by conventional beliefs was seen in more than 6,000 productions on five continents last year. This performance was in the opera’s original French with Spanish and English translations displayed above the stage.
What is the definition of crazy? Are you nuts? And perhaps the most unsettling question of all—would you be able to defend yourself in court if your sanity were put on trial? To be honest, I’m not entirely sure how successful I would be at convincing a judge to deem me fit for a regular trial… and that uneasy thought is exactly what lingered with me as I walked into Tom Toper's NUTS at The Weekend Theater, which ran March 6–22 in Little Rock.
In an enchanting evening of music, magic, and memorable performances, Theatre 29's production of 'Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella' breathes new life into the classic fairy tale.
Packed with information, praise, and sublime musical performances, Marieann Meringolo's Bergman tribute show is an elegant and emotional entertainment.
BETTE AND JOAN – fame, fear, fervour, and feuding. This famous Hollywood feud delves into the unique paths of these two movie icons.
As Dionne Warwick took the stage at Groton Hill Music Center in Groton recently, before she had sung a single word, she was met by a rousing standing ovation. It was clear from the get-go that the capacity audience knew they were in the presence of a legend.
Come From Away is based on a true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small Canadian town turned into an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander's air strip on September 11th, 2001.
For Starra Jones, a baller from rural Plainnole, Arkansas, fulfilling her mother’s dream of basketball glory is her prime motivation. Playing a style of ‘dirty’ ball, her braggadocio will lead her to a foul play in Candrice Jones’ Flex, making its West Coast premiere at SF Playhouse.
When it comes to the arts, there are a lot of things in DC that go either unnoticed or get lost in the shuffle. For almost twenty years now Ford’s Theatre has been presenting such a piece of theatre and it’s a very important one.
What I’m Here For (Danish title Flora) is a co-production between internationally acclaimed companies Vanishing Point (Scotland) and Teater Katapult (Denmark).
When the original production of Chicago opened on Broadway in 1975, its subtitle read “A Musical Vaudeville.” And as distinctively Bob Fosse-style as it was (and is in this excellent touring production of the 1996 revival), Chicago has always been a slight history of vaudeville.
See photos and a write up of the 4/1 Dutch Treat Club luncheon featuring performer Mark Nadler and author David Margolick, who presented his new book: When Caesar Was King: How Sid Caesar Reinvented American Comedy.
What did our critic think of GREG - CELEBRITY ROAST al TEATRO OLIMPICO?
Doing 90 Down Memory Lane at the Brave New Workshop is a laugh-out-loud comedy that feels like a fast-moving road trip through some of the company’s best sketches from the past few years. Framed as a springtime detour through Minnesota road closures, the show is a perfect mix of nostalgia and fresh humor, with a few throwback sketches that longtime fans will love.
SomeBODY once told me that Shrek The Musical Jr. would be a fun night at the theatre, but what I experienced at The Royal Theatre in Benton was a joyful, high-energy celebration of young talent, teamwork, and the kind of storytelling that reminds us all why we fell in love with theatre in the first place.
Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts brings the iconic TV detective to the stage in a new original mystery.
