Review: A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL at the Aronoff Center

From: BroadwayWorld  |  Date: 5/14/2025

Unlike many biographical jukebox musicals (that are also excellent in their own rights), including Beautiful: A Carole King Musical, On Your Feet!, and Jersey Boys, A Beautiful Noise is based more in reflection rather than a direct story. The older Neil recognizes his mistakes and regrets throughout his past, making it even more difficult for those watching to see how those events impacted his future self. In doing so, the show goes beyond the story and focuses on difficult themes like pressure, loneliness, and imbalance.

Review: & JULIET at the Aronoff Center

From: BroadwayWorld  |  Date: 4/16/2025

However, perhaps most importantly of all, the show makes a direct statement advocating for unapologetic acceptance of one’s own self and others. The central characters learn to stand up for themselves and what they want, defying expectations when the society around them wants them to follow a set of rigid rules.

Review: MAMMA MIA! at the Aronoff Center

From: BroadwayWorld  |  Date: 9/11/2024

However, good casting only goes so far as the resulting chemistry, and this production of Mamma Mia! has loads of it. From the friendly trios of Donna, Rosie, and Tanya and Sam, Bill, and Harry, to the romantic passion and tension of Donna and Sam, as well as Sophie and Sky, and to the endearing familial relationship of the mother-daughter duo of Donna and Sophie, every collaboration brings something different. The supporting ensemble also elevates the show greatly, and it truly wouldn’t work without the incredible ranges of their talents. It’s a show based on community, and it’s greatly felt all throughout the show.

Review: CLUE at the Aronoff Center

From: BroadwayWorld  |  Date: 5/22/2024

Through every game and story however, the ending is always the most intriguing part to see how they wrap things up, as there are always so many possibilities. Without spoiling anything, the way the play did the conclusion was satisfying, leaving Clue off on a great note. This in addition to a fantastic cast who knew how to add their own strengths to their roles, a set with surprises in its design, and direction that knew how to transport the story to the stage, Clue is a solid comedy play that will fill anyone’s evening with laughter and joy.

Review: BEETLEJUICE at Aronoff Center

From: BroadwayWorld  |  Date: 1/24/2024

n assessing Beetlejuice as a night out at the theatre, the show sparkles with its spectacular sets, bright and flashing lights, and intricate props and costumes. Its aesthetic is perfect for the Halloween season but can still be appreciated by lovers of general spookiness all year round. It has a good mix of big numbers showing off the ranges of the ensemble members as they switch characters in between scenes, as well as big solos that feature strong vocals by the leading actors. Modern musical theatre as a whole tends to have a distinct, pop-like sound, but Eddie Perfect's score works well in this instance as it is executed very well. Lydia is played by Isabella Esler, who should feel very lucky having the right timing to tour the country playing a role that exemplifies her great abilities so wonderfully, especially as her professional debut. Meanwhile, Matthew Michael Janisse stepped into the role of Beetlejuice on Tuesday, January 16th, and he claimed the role so well that anyone would be lucky to see him go on in one of his limited-edition performances as the titular character.
