Review: ONLY AN OCTAVE APART at Spoleto Festival USA
by Perry Tannenbaum - June 12, 2023

Starring Anthony Roth Costanzo and Justin Vivian Bond, ONLY AN OCTAVE demonstrates how much we've changed - and how much we haven't - since Carol Burnett and Beverly Sills first sang the song in 1976, one year before Spoleto arrived in Charleston. But what about 2011, when Taylor Mac strutted onstage and proclaimed, 'This is my festival bitches!'?

Review: LISA VIGGIANO SINGS THE JANE OLIVOR SONGBOOK is a Heartfelt Tribute at Laurie Beechman Theatre
by Ricky Pope - October 14, 2022

What Lisa Viggiano has as a performer that was not apparent in Jane Olivor’s work is a wry and ironic sense of humor. When Viggiano allows her spirit to come front and center, the show she has created with director Mark Nadler really flies. However, for much of the performance, it feels as if Ms. Viggiano is attempting to constrain her own ebullient personality into the earnest, serious personality of Jane Olivor. I left the show wanting less Jane Olivor and more Lisa Viggiano. In short, Jane is cramping Lisa’s style.

Review: ONLY AN OCTAVE APART, Wilton's Music Hall
by Franco Milazzo - October 03, 2022

“Keep it pretty, keep it shallow, keep it moving.” As well as being words that American cabaret singer Justin Vivian Bond (pronoun v) lives by, they go some way to sum up Only An Octave Apart, this eye-catching and pacy two-hander with Grammy-winning countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo.

Here's our report then which still holds true. Leanne had Ken Ard and Travis Poelle join her at the Green Room. Pianist Ron Abel supplied the highly effective arrangements.

by Stephen Sorokoff - November 10, 2019

You never know what's just around the corner and that's the fascinating thing about discovering cabaret artists who are new to your milieu. Last night it was at the corner of 71st Street and 2nd Avenue at the Beach Cafe. Friend Ron Abel, one of the music industry's preeminent pianists/ arranger/music directors in his heads up to me about this artist said …“Sometimes you get lucky. You get to work with a smart actress whose ability to understand a lyric translates to her being able to take the song to a place that people haven't heard before. And then, she has the vocal range and ability to take it that one step further.” That folks is Lianne Marie Dobbs who while new to me is well known by cabaret enthusiasts.
