A two-act theatrical tribute, BY ANY OTHER NAME: An Opus for James Baldwin traces the remarkable life and enduring voice of one of America’s most influential writers and thinkers. From his Harlem childhood and early years as a preacher to his emergence as a celebrated writer in Paris and his involvement in the Civil Rights movement, the play explores the experiences that shaped Baldwin’s art, activism, and uncompromising pursuit of truth. Blending historical fact with poetic fiction, Baldwin encounters figures including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers, as well as fictional characters who challenge and illuminate his ideas about race, identity, art, love, and what it means to be fully human.
