By:

Kids In The Hall fans are in for a real treat at the 16th North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. One of the largest comedy festivals on the East Coast welcomes Kids in the Hall 's Kevin McDonald for a headlining performance on Thursday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. on the Mainstage at The Arts Center in Carrboro (300-G East Main St.) McDonald is also holding a two-day, twelve hour sketch comedy Master Class. Tickets cost $20. Tickets and more information on all of the performers is available online at www.nccomedyarts.com.

Kids in the Hall alum Kevin McDonald has become a working comedy icon. A founding member of the legendary sketch comedy ensemble The Kids in the Hall, he continues to tour the world performing and teaching improvisation & sketch comedy. As an actor and voice artist Kevin is the voice of Pleakley in the Lilo & Stitch franchise, Waffle in Catscratch, and the Almighty Tallest Purple in Invader Zim. Kevin also stars as a co-pilot in the new web comedy series Papillon.

McDonald is also offering a two-day 12-hour intensive "Improv to Sketch" workshop designed to improve acting and comedic writing skills. This workshop runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13. Limited to 18 people, this workshop, open to actors/improvisers/ comedians, participants will write comedy through improvised scenework, where improv serves as the writing tool.

The workshop costs $300 and will include some individual work with McDonald. Participants warm-up with improv games to help sharpen storytelling skills and evolve until students are doing their own improvised scenes in small groups. The they take these improvised scenes, working with the ideas and developing full comedy sketches. Each group will then have the opportunity to present their sketch in the workshop. After getting notes, revising and presenting the scenes again, the workshop will end with each group actually finalizing their scenes. The students will perform their now fully written sketches one last time during a showcase hosted by Kevin McDonald.
