Pops legend Marvin Hamlisch takes the podium to lead the North Carolina Symphony in a fun and fabulous tribute to Barbra Streisand at Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, at 8:00 p.m. Singer and longtime Hamlisch collaborator Julie Budd lends her show-stopping vocal talents to "The Barbra Streisand Songbook" for a lineup featuring "People," "Don't Rain on My Parade," "The Way We Were" and many more Streisand favorites.

As a composer, Marvin Hamlisch has won three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globes and the Pulitzer Prize, for the score to A Chorus Line. His prolific output of scores include original compositions and musical adaptations for films including The Way We Were, The Sting, Sophie's Choice, Ordinary People and Oscar-nominated work in 2010 for The Informant!

A Juilliard School graduate, he holds the position of principal pops conductor for the National, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Milwaukee, Seattle and San Diego symphony orchestras and was musical director and arranger for Barbra Streisand's 1994 concert tour of the U.S. and England.

"Music can make a difference," he says when asked about his role as one of America's favorite popular composers and musical luminaries. "There is a global nature to music, which has the potential to bring all people together. Music is truly an international language, and I hope to contribute by widening communication as much as I can."

He joins the North Carolina Symphony on stage in Raleigh alongside Julie Budd, whose credits range from television to film and the New York stage, as well as performances at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and The London Palladium. The pair first collaborated on the Bill Cosby and Elliot Gould film The Devil and Max Devlin, in which she sang Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager's "Roses and Rainbows." They have toured together throughout the country.

Regular tickets to the Fidelity Investments Pops Series performances of "Marvin Hamlisch presents: The Barbra Streisand Songbook" on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, range from $30 to $60, with $30 tickets for seniors and $10 tickets for students. Meymandi Concert Hall is located in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 E. South St., in Raleigh.
