Burning Coal Theatre Concludes Season with 'ELM Collective' Concert, 10/11

Burning Coal Theatre Company, a small professional theatre located in Raleigh, North Carolina, will conclude its second MusiCoal season with a concert of the ensemble "ELM collective". The concert will take place in the newly renovated Meymandi Theater at the Murphey School, 224 Polk Street in downtown Raleigh on Sunday, October 11 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door.

About ELM collective. Comprised of musicians/composers from five nations and four continents, this Raleigh based "composers' collective" provides a forum for the fusion of jazz and world sounds and is influenced by the personal experiences that each of the musicians bring. All the members of the collective are deeply convinced that we are all part of a global world, where art and music are elements that can unify different cultures and create a new vision of peace and coexistence for the generations to come. They take as their mission to show to their audiences that this blending of cultures is indeed not only possible, but of higher intellectual and artistic value. To fulfill this goal, "ELM collective" is dedicated to the performance of original material created by its members and uniquely arranged to highlight the instrumentation and artistic perspective of the ensemble.

About the musicians. Marco Buongiorno Nardelli (flutes), Rome (Italy). Educated as both a musician and a physicist, Marco is a versatile award-winning composer/performer, at ease in the baroque repertoire as well as jazz, contemporary and electronic music. Jim Crew (piano, accordion), Raleigh, NC (USA). Jim has performed at major jazz festivals and in clubs from New York to Florida and composes music for dance, theater and film trailers (including King Kong, The DaVinci Code, The Lion King). Naji Hilal (oud, violin), Kernayel (Lebanon). A virtuoso performer in the most acclaimed Arabic tradition of oud playing, Naji is also a scholar who lectures on the subject of Middle Eastern scales at universities and music workshops. Ed T. Butler (drums), Baltimore, MD (USA). Acclaimed recording artist ("The Bo Lozzoff Rock & Blues Traveling Road Show", "Red Clay Ramblers", Michelle Shocked), he is a shining light in the vibrant music scene of North Carolina. Alex Gorodezky (guitars), Kiev (Ukraine). An active musician with years of touring in Europe and America, Alex creates contemporary arrangements that combine elements of modern jazz, bossa nova and flamenco. Ernie Donadelle (bass), New York, NY (USA). Ernie has performed and extensively toured in North America and Asia ("Julie Grant & Crystal Vision", Richard "Dimples" Fields, Alexander O' Neal, "Luna" and "Straight from the Heart"). Frake "bakru" Hunsel (percussions), Suriname. Besides being an active percussionist for many years, Frake is a drum facilitator hoping to expose the young and the old to the unifying joy and power of the drum.
