Verdi's La Traviata has been on the repertoire of this opera house ever since its foundation. It has become primarily an opportunity to host famous international singers including legendary Australian soprano Nellie Melba (18 4th, 1900). This production is one of the most popular titles of the Prague State Opera which at the end of the 2005/2006 season reached a total of 487 performances. The staging of the last production in 2006 undertook a foreign team headed by French director Arnaud Bernard, musical direction was entrusted with the Italian conductor Enrico Dovico, a permanent guest of the Prague State Opera. The production is one of the most popular titles of the Prague State Opera also abroad, including its success in Japan (2007).
