The famous Romantic ballet inspired by the German poet Heinrich Heine’s theme is built upon the contrast between the human and supernatural worlds. The story of a winsome country girl who dies out of desperation from unrequited love and whose soul turns into a fairy is accompanied by A. C. Adam’s music, replete with catchy melodies. Giselle is one of the few Romantic ballets to have survived the time of its origination and gain lasting fame. The National Theatre Ballet presents the traditional version of Giselle, as it is familiar to audiences worldwide.
