Based off Helen Keller’s autobiography The Story of My Life, Tigard High School Department of Theatre is proud to present The Miracle Worker, a captivating production written by William Gibson, directed by Todd Hermanson and Bobi Bergh.
The Miracle Worker depicts the true story of the determined Annie Sullivan in her struggle to break through to her student, the blind and mute Helen Keller. Helen is trapped in her own secret, silent world, unable to communicate yet longing to do so. She acts out in violent, spoiled ways in a desperate attempt to be heard, but is instead treated as a subhuman creature by her family. Only Annie sees that there is a mind and soul in Helen yearning to be rescued from her isolation. With scenes full of intense physical and emotional potency, Annie’s success with Helen finally comes with the utterance of a single, powerful word: “water.”
Tickets are available online at thsdrama.com for $8.00 (plus a service fee). Tickets are also available at the door prior to each performance for $10.00. Purchases made at the door are cash and check only.
