triangle productions! to Launch 'Brown Paper Bag' Series with BLUE-EYED BLACK BOY

triangle productions! will launch its newest outreach program, THE BROWN PAPER BAG SERIES.

Chosen out of several dozen "anti-lynching" plays, most written by African American women between 1916 and 1934, are four one-acts which will be presented through spring of 2017 in the Portland Metro area. In light of recent violent acts against people of color, our collaborating professional artists are committed to sharing these plays in ways which elicit greater understanding of yesterday's events relating to today's environment. Our intention is to shed light on past atrocities, and to inspire open dialogue about ways in which these historical events affect us today.

Our first reading, BLUE-EYED BLACK BOY, will be presented at triangle on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00PM. In Georgia Douglas Johnson's 1930 one-act, Pauline Waters is alarmed to learn that her son has been arrested for brushing up against a white woman on the street, followed by the woman claiming he was trying to attack her. Police have dragged him to the jail, and the Waters family is terrified that Jack will be lynched.

This short, impactful play is presented as a staged reading, directed by Andrea White. Cast includes Portland favorites Skeeter Greene, James Dixon, RaChelle Schmidt and Josie Seid. A discussion will follow the reading.
