WHISKEY DIXIE & THE BIG WET COUNTRY Comes to Portland

Whiskey Dixie & The Big Wet Country is a raunchy outlaw-country musical about a sexually frustrated singing-cowgirl who finds herself on a tragicomic ride from Hell and will do whatever it takes to get off. The show, written & directed by women, will make its world premiere on September 21st and run through October 13th at Imago Theatre in Portland, OR.
Brainchild of Portland local award-winning and Grammy nominated songwriter, Amanda Richards, this production is a musical written for a cast of characters that have no business being in a musical: Rednecks, drunks and old hippies who juxtapose Richards' sweet Dolly Parton-esque voice with rough and rousing choruses in true barroom form on ear worms like "Low Lifes Drinking High Life" and "F*#% This Night." Richards' take on dive bars, sexual taboos and American patriarchy offers a uniquely feminist perspective to a genre of music and culture that is typically reserved for good ol' boys and misogyny.
The story follows Whiskey Williams (played by Richards' herself), a hot-mess country singer beating off the demons of her past, through a rough weekend of poor decisions, hangovers and a brief run-in with law which climaxes with alchemical combustion between her and her counterpart, Dick Princess (John Bruner) whose onstage chemistry is as undeniable as it is uncomfortable.
The outstanding cast features local celebrities of the stage and screen: Brandie Sylfae, Dennis Fitzpatrick, John Bruner, Tyler Shilstone, Mac Kimmerle, Michele Brouse Peoples, Anita Clark and Diana Marie. Directed by Serah Pope & music direction by Steve Moore.
If you've ever longed to hear country songs about premature ejaculation or how to properly go down on a woman, you will love soon-to-be classics "Come too Quick" and "Save a Cow, Eat a Cowgirl". You can listen to the "cleanest" singles from the soundtrack, "Poor Personal Hygiene" and "The STD Song" here.
