"Those who can, do, and those who can't, teach." Hillsboro's youth theater, STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy production of School of Rock, proves that this old adage has some truth to it, as we see Dewey Finn, formerly played by Jack Black, take his rock know how and teaches a new generation of rockers.

STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy is opening its 7th season with School of Rock-The Musical! Many will remember this as a great movie featuring the hilarious Jack Black! Now you can see this amazing and energetic youth production in Hillsboro in November 2016!

STAGES is part of a small, select group of theatre companies who were chosen by the licensing agent Rodgers and Hammerstein of New York to mount this show. It is highly unusual for a community theatre to receive the rights to perform a show that is still performing on Broadway. One of the stipulations of the contract was that all performers must be, including orchestra/band, under the age of eighteen, and all music must be live.

As the story goes, down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star Dewey Finn poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to make ends meet. When he discovers his students' musical talents, he enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands. He turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school's beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within. Based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same title, School of Rock features classic hits as well as brand new music written by Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, with a book by Julian Fellowes.

Seasoned STAGES director, Luis Ventura, directs a cast of more than thirty, including musicians.

School of Rock-The Musical opens November 4th and performances continue at the Hillsboro High School auditorium through November 20th. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:30 pm. Purchase tickets at www.stagesyouth.org. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students.
