Portland Actors Conservatory Announces SUMMER ON STAGE YOUTH THEATRE

Portland Actors Conservatory has announced this year's instructors, program offerings and scholarships for its Summer on Stage programs. A new series of weeklong intensives for upper level acting students will be taught by Michelle Kopper Seymour of Vanport Square Studio in addition to the traditional camps taught by Andrea White and Melissa Whitney. Also, the Conservatory plans to award $1,500 in need-based scholarships for Summer on Stage students.

This year's scholarship funds are the highest Portland Actors Conservatory has ever been able to award. Six $250 scholarships will be awarded to students on need based eligibility. Scholarships can be applied to any full-day session, either our Teen Intensives or Summer on Stage programs. The scholarship application deadline is May 28.

Summer On Stage teachers come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Kopper Seymour runs her own voice training program in Northeast Portland; established professional actress Andrea White also teaches at Robert Gray Middle School and joins Summer on Stage teaching veteran Melissa Whitney in our traditional, 2 ½ week production-oriented camps.

ABOUT SUMMER ON STAGE 2010 INSTRUCTORS

Michelle Kopper Seymour combines 25 years as a professional actor/singer in Portland and New York City with over a decade of yoga and dance meditation to bring unique insight to her classes and workshops. As a certified teacher of both Rasa Yoga and The Nia Technique, breath, movement and sound are an integral part of all her work. Kopper Seymour also teaches the Summer Teen Musical Intensive at Portland Center Stage and serves as the President of the Portland Area Theatre Alliance. As a recording artist, Kopper's pop/rock songs reflect rich jazz, blues and gospel influences, and have been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Rickee Lee Jones.

Andrea White recently appeared in Radio Golf at Portland Playhouse and Rocket Man with Baseroots Theatre Company. She has received Drammy Awards for her work at Artists Repertory Theatre and Theatre Vertigo. White has appeared at the IFCC, Profile Theatre Company, Portland Center Stage's JAW Festival and in Los Angeles in the 30th anniversary revival of Hair. White's film and television work includes guest appearances on NYPD Blue, Family Matters, Living Single, and Why My Daughter - The Gail Moffitt Story as well as The Crowley Project (CBS Films), Drinking Games (Village Idiot Productions) and ASL (Lions Gate Productions).

Melissa Whitney is an instructional assistant as well as a professional actress. In addition to teaching for PAC's Summer on Stage program since 2005, Whitney has also taught at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics. She is a member of Northwest Classical Theatre Company and has performed with Re-Theatre Instrument and Lakewood Theater Company. Melissa received her undergraduate degree in theatre from Portland State University and holds a Master's degree in Education.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Portland Actors Conservatory is the premiere school for professional actor training in the Pacific Northwest. Artistic director Beth Harper leads the Conservatory's multiple offerings including its fulltime, Two Year Professional Training Program, ongoing Studio Class offerings, and the Summer on Stage youth theatre program.
