Mysterious events befall the theater and no one can be sure if it's just coincidence or the work of...The Phantom! Brooke and Zeke are excited to star in their school's next hit musical, The Phantom, until they hear a rumor that the show is cursed! Prepare to get "Goosebumps" as the mystery unfolds. This silly and (only a little) spooky world premiere musical is based on the beloved book series from R.L. Stine.
Reinforcing OCT's commitment to forging national partnerships, the play will be a simultaneous world premiere with First Stage in Madison, WI. Previous co-commissions between OCT and First Stage include The Giver, Gathering Blue, and Geronimo Stilton: Mouse in Space.
"Great music and story collide with a fun type of scary, the kind of scary that makes you scream and laugh at the same time. And spoooooooky. This is going to be so much fun!" says
Director Stan Foote. "Danny Abosch's music is fun, character driven, and contemporary. There is no Gothic angst in this Phantom!"
In July 1992, Scholastic introduced a monthly book series by R.L. Stine called Goosebumps with Goosebumps: Welcome to the Dead House. More than twenty years later, Goosebumps is now one of the best-selling children's series of all-time-with more than 400 million books in print in 22 languages. The Goosebumps series made R.L. Stine a worldwide publishing celebrity (and Jeopardy answer), and he continues to write new books in the series. Goosebumps, a feature film starring Jack Black, based on the book series by R.L. Stine, was released in theaters on October 16, 2015, and opened at #1 at the box office.
The cast features Katie McClanan as Brooke Rodgers, Skylar Derthick as Zeke Matthews, Sophia Takla as Tina, Laurie Campbell-Leslie as Ms. Walker, Andy Haftkowycz as Emile, Brendan Long as Brian, Josephine McGehee as Cami, Emma Stewart as Anna, Gabriel Porath as Steve, and Xavier Warner as Corey.
The creative team includes: Stan Foote (Director), Eric Nordin (Musical Director), Kemba Shannon (Choreographer), Kristeen Willis Crosser (Scenic Designer), Emily Horton (Costume Designer), Ian Anderson-Priddy (Lighting Designer), John Berendzen (Sound Designer), and Kaye Blakenship (Props Master). The play also features book and lyrics by John Maclay and music and lyrics by Danny Abosch.
