"-Ism" is an hour-long original work by Theatre Diaspora composed of six to seven short monologues exploring the intersections of race, gender, orientation and nationality, including stories with specifically Pacific Northwest perspectives.
Some monologues with a Northwest perspective will be developed during local workshops while most will be curated from this national submission process. The project will culminate in six performances (including one developmental reading) in Portland, Oregon. The shows will include post-show community dialogues with audience members in an effort to bridge cultural divides and inspire much-needed empathy, understanding and compassion. The long-term goal of this project is to tour small towns and rural communities across Oregon. "-Ism" will be directed by Catherine "Ming Tien" Duffly, an accomplished Portland director and instructor. The acting ensemble will be comprised of Theatre Diaspora ensemble members and other actors of color who participate in a series of training and workshops preceding the rehearsals and performances.
Please email submissions by August 5th via PDF or Word to theatrediaspora@gmail.com. Submissions may consist of already produced work excerpts from larger work or new original pieces. They can be adapted long form poetry, personal essays as well as from theatrical works.Videos
