Milagro Theatre to Celebrate International Women's Day, 3/2

By:

In 2013, Milagro celebrates International Women's Day by uniting with experts and community leaders in a delightful afternoon dedicated to wellness that focuses on the challenges faced by local Latinas. This year's topic will be Liderazgo Materna: Parental Involvement in Education. Milagro's annual multi-disciplinary Spanish-language program, Mundo de las Mujeres, will be held Saturday, March 2, at El Centro Milagro (537 SE Stark St., Portland), from 1-5 p.m. with a performance of Las Methichis a short play written by Ana Consuelo Matiella. Las Methichis is about how to advocate for children if when one does not speak English and how to persevere even when one does not have the support one needs. This event is free and open to the public.

Following the presentation will be an audience conversation of community leaders and experts facilitated by Olga Sanchez, Milagro's Artistic Director.

Throughout the afternoon, guests are invited to visit the free resource fair in Milagro's Zócalo space and enjoy the opportunity to speak with education, social service and health experts in the community.

Annually on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities, and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Milagro began observing this event in 2008 with a presentation about brutal murders of women in Ciudad Juarez. Since then Milagro has illuminated wellness issues and solutions, helping Latinas in the community, and raising women's awareness across the globe.
