Milagro Receives $14,840 to Support Original Programming & Community Engagement
In January 2015, Milagro, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, was awarded one grant for $7,500 to support Milagro's touring & arts education programming. Milagro also completed its 3rd Willamette Week Give!Guide campaign, with the help of Portland's individual donors, who gave $7,340 to support Milagro's original programming and mission.
"I think Milagro was a very positive experience, students who do not usually do theatre got a chance to experience theatre-style exercises and the power of those exercises. The bilingual instructors and performers were exceptional, both as actors and as a connection of cultures. The performance itself was excellent. It was a compelling story with profound cultural imagery." -Drama teacher Lori Daliposen, Glencoe High SchoolOn January 2, 2015, the Autzen Foundation awarded Milagro $7,500 to support Milagro's touring & arts education program, and in particular its school performances, residencies, and workshops throughout Oregon. These programs include 2 bilingual productions written for young audiences: Sueños de Fútbol (about a girl learning to challenge herself physically) and El Niño Diego (about Diego Rivera as a child learning his art).
The Autzen Foundation was established in the 1950's by Thomas J. Autzen, and was headed by his son, Thomas E. Autzen, also president of the University of Oregon Foundation. The Foundation supplied the single largest donation, $250,000, to support the construction of the football stadium at the University of Oregon in Eugene that bears his name.
