Latina Artists Presents FUSE ME at Q Center in Portland Tonight

Latina artists present FUSE ME, an interdisciplinary arts showcase and panel discussion celebrating individuality and challenging clichés and cultural conventions in Portland, Oregon, tonight, April 18th at the Q Center.

FUSE ME inaugurates as an arts showcase featuring Latina artists celebrating individuality, their becoming identities as they challenge clichés and cultural conventions. The artists' work will express both the
success and failure of integration with the Latino community, Portland metropolitan area,and the United States. The event offers local art, poetry, music, a workshop exploring identity followed by a panel discussion featuring Latina leaders and their personal experiences of cultural integration and misfires. The evening event closes with a social featuring a DJ set by Coast2C. Bites of love will be provided by La Bonita Restaurant.

7:00 - 8:00 pm - Workshop: "Aqui entre nos" with Nelda Reyes, a theatrical reading and
guided discussion about women's empowerment and identity.
8:00 - 8:30 pm - Music: Trovas with Edna Vazquez
8:30 - 9:00 pm - Performance Art: Pochas Radicales
9:00 - 9:15 pm - Poetry: Luna Flores
9:15 - 9:30 pm - Words by visual artists

This event is funded in part by the Regional Arts and Culture Council in collaboration with Fusionarte. Featured Artists and Panel: A diverse group of Latina artists have been selected to showcase their work. The artists featured are both established artists with a longstanding careers, as well as emerging artists who are developing their voice and presence.

Artists featured are: theatre performer Nelda Reyes (Mexico City, Mexico); painter and collage artist Julieth Maya (Medellin, Colombia); photographer Elizabeth Pribada (Mexico City, Mexico), poet Luna Flores (Mexico City, Mexico); performers Blanca Stacey Villalobos (Beaumont, California) and Kenia Perez Correa (Reno, Nevada) who make up the duo Pochas Radicales; fashion designer Myriam Marcela (Monterrey, Mexico); chanteuse Edna Vazquez (Colima, Mexico).

The panel will be moderated by writer and photographer Ivonne Saed (Triple cronica de un nombre, saedgraphic.com). She will lead the discussion with a group of panelist comprised of artists, leaders and community members. Panelists include: writer and dancer Carina Guzman (Bogota, Columbia); zumba teacher Gisella Contreras (Hood River, Oregon), financial aid director Araceli Ortiz (Michoacan, Mexico); and cultural arts producer Jessica Lagunas (Toluca, Mexico).
