Lakewood Theatre Company presents Mack and Mabel Part of the Lost Treasures Collection Series October 21 & 22, 2011

The Lost Treasures Collection, a series of rarely performed musical gems, is back for a second season at Lakewood Theatre Company. This year, three musicals featuring movie themes will be presented in a concert/cabaret style. The first offering, Mack and Mabel will be performed October 21 and 22, 2011 on Lakewood's Side Door stage.

Each show in the series is presented script-in-hand, with minimal staging. No sets, no props (free from the usual trappings of a fully staged production). Food and beverages are available for purchase before and during the show.

The 2011-12 Lost Treasures series of plays includes Mack and Mabel (October 21-22, 2011), Minnie's Boys (January 6-7, 2012) and Goldilocks (April 20-21, 2012).

nly, Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 PM. Based on an idea by Leonard Spigelglass, this 1974 musical features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman (Hello Dolly!, Mame, La Cage Aux Folles) and book by Michael Stewart (Hello Dolly!, George M!, 42nd Street). The production is directed by John Oules and Matt Grossman is musical director. Original choreography is by Claire Hallstead Roche and is adapted by Susan Ruddock. Alex Diaz is the production's lighting designer and Kay Vega is the producer. The title sponsor for Mack and Mabel is Banner Bank.

The Story: The tale of legendary director Mack Sennett and his greatest star, comedienne Mabel Normand (originally played by Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters) is told in flashback with Mack (Ron Daum) as the narrator as he reminisces about the past, recalling his triumphs and his turbulent love affair with Mabel (Alina Ziak) whom he had discovered as a waitress and made a star. The bountiful score (and Jerry Herman's personal favorite) includes "Tap Your Troubles Away," "Time Heals Everything," "I Won't Send Roses," "Hundreds of Girls," "When Mabel Comes in the Room" and many more. A saga of the silent film era "when movies were movies."

Others in the cast include Lisamarie Harrison as Lottie Ames, Seth Renne as Fatty Arbuckle, Norman Wilson as William Desmond Taylor and Thomas Slater as Frank.

Lakewood Theatre Company presents the musical, Mack and Mabel
The tumultuous romantic relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand who became one of his biggest stars. In a series of flashbacks, Sennett relates the glory days of Keystone Studios from 1911, when he discovered Normand and cast her in dozens of his early "two-reelers," through his creation of Sennett's Bathing Beauties and the Keystone Cops.
