Throughline Theatre Opens ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, Oct 26

By:

Mortimer Brewster is a reasonably normal man with reasonably normal aspirations, which are all turned upside down in a single day by the sudden revelation of his sweet-hearted old aunts' penchant for poisoning old homeless men and by the unexpected return of his long-lost psychopathic brother with a mind for revenge. Just in time for Halloween, Throughline Theatre Company presents Arsenic and Old Lace, by Joseph Kesselring October 26th at the Grey Box Theatre on Butler St. in Lawrenceville.

Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic comedy from the golden age of screw-ball comedies; fast-paced, sharp-tonged dialogue combining with some of the looniest characters in the most absurd circumstances ever to hit the stage to this play a hilarious and unforgettable night of entertainment. Despite premiering on Broadway in 1941, having been adapted to the big screen and small screen, and being a staple of community, educational, and professional theatre companies alike, Arsenic and Old Lace still thrills, shocks, and cracks up audiences everywhere.

Arsenic and Old Lace is the final production in Throughline Theatre's third season, which is the young company's first season in their new venue. In 2011, Throughline Theatre Company received a Proclamation from the Pittsburgh City Council in recognition of their efforts and achievements bringing high-quality, affordable Theatre to the region. The Pittsburgh City Paper called Throughline's recent production of August: Osage County "spellbinding."

Throughline Theatre Company's four-show season focuses on the relationship between past, present, and future by presenting plays from varied time periods and arranging them to highlight their thematic and stylistic similarities.

Arsenic and Old Lace will open Friday, October 26 at 8pm, and there will be an Opening Night Event that begins before the show at 7pm and continues after until 11pm. Performances continue October 27-November 3, Thursday and Friday at 8pm, Saturdays at 1pm and 5:30pm. Tickets are $15 or $12 for students and seniors. Tickets for the Opening Night Event are sold seperately and are $10. Tickets are available at the door or in advance online at showclix.throughline.com.
